Structures and travel routes
What a structure marker checks
A structure finder begins with seed-based placement and applies the checks supported for that structure. A valid biome matters for villages, temples and other biome-limited structures. Strongholds use a different layout, while dungeons are placed features with block-level room checks. These targets cannot all be interpreted as the same kind of guaranteed pin.
The map displays supported structure types for the selected edition and version. Changing from Java to Bedrock changes the placement calculation, not just the label above the map. A matching seed and a familiar coastline do not establish that a village, fortress or stronghold has the same coordinates in both editions.
How to find structures
- 01
Choose the seed, edition and generation version. Select Overworld, Nether or End before enabling the structure type you want.
- 02
Enable a small set of markers. Open a result for coordinates and compare it with the surrounding biomes; add more types when you need to compare nearby stops.
- 03
Keep the dimension and version in your copied plan. X and Z are structure reference points, so inspect the actual building for entrances, rooms and vertical access.
Different layouts produce different gaps
In Java 26.3, villages use a 34-chunk random-spread grid with 8-chunk separation. Nether fortresses and bastions share a 27-chunk grid with 4-chunk separation. Strongholds instead occupy 128 positions in concentric rings. A blank region on the map can therefore reflect the placement layout, a biome rejection or a structure type that does not exist in the chosen release. It does not mean the map has inspected every possible block for buildings.
Worked example: a Trial Chamber
For seed 8675309 in Java 26.3, the map shows a Trial Chamber at X=192, Z=176. A vanilla Java 26.3 server returned those coordinates with /locate structure minecraft:trial_chambers. The pin is a horizontal structure location. It does not identify the doorway or give a path down from the surface. Switch to the biome view to understand the land above it, then plan the descent in the world.
Release gates are part of the result
Trial Chambers are a Java 1.21 feature, so a Java 1.20 map must not display them. Ancient Cities enter the Java structure list from 1.19 and Trail Ruins from 1.20. The Java 26.3 list adds Abandoned Camps. A seed alone does not carry these rules: the selected release tells the engine which generation system and structure catalog to use. Old saved chunks do not gain every newer structure just because a server is updated.
Placement does not reveal the full building
The finder does not read chest contents, portal frame Eyes, villager trades or player edits. Terrain-dependent structures and dungeon candidates also need surrounding-block checks that a seed map does not fully reproduce. Treat a structure start as a place to investigate, then use its specialist finder for details such as stronghold rings or dungeon heights. In the Nether and End, keep dimension coordinates separate from Overworld travel distances; the map does not simulate portal linking.
Structure Finder FAQ
Why is a structure missing from the list?
It may belong to another dimension or a later release. Change those settings before searching elsewhere.
Does a marker give the entrance?
It gives a structure reference point. The entrance, rooms and floor height can be elsewhere.
Can this map see what players have changed?
No. It calculates generation from the seed and does not load the saved world.

Map and coordinate reports
For a missing or misplaced result, include the full seed, Java or Bedrock, game version, dimension, coordinates, and what appeared in the world. Mention mods, datapacks, add-ons, experiments, server software, or old chunks when relevant.
